FAQ

What is the format of each session?

Each session will be a mixture of lecture, discussion, and table talk with other participants. Each session will be content rich and you can expect an academic type feel for the evening. Each session will be from 6-8 p.m. on Monday evenings.

Is there homework?

Yes. There will be some assigned readings. There will be a few books required to be read as a class over the course of the two semesters. Students can expect an 1-2 hours of homework each week.

Who is leading this program?

This program is being led by the pastors of Colonial Hills.

Who will be teaching?

There will be a number of different teachers for this program. We will have a diversity of communicators, teachers, pastors, professors, and leaders to guide each session. Every subject will be handled by someone we deem as a specialist in that area.

Why are we doing Discipleship Academy?

Discipleship is a non-negotiable requirement for a Christ-follower. Jesus has made it clear that we are supposed to make disciples. Being a disciple and making a disciples aren't always easy, and aren't always natural. Discipleship Academy desires to help make it a little easier, and a little more natural, by creating an intentional pathway for people to learn to be a disciple that makes disciples.

What are the subjects that will be taught?

Humanities (Sexuality, Manhood, Womanhood, Gender)
Church History
Missions
Evangelism
Disciple-making
Systematic Theology
Ecclesiology (The Church)
Pneumatology (The Holy Spirit)
AND MORE...

Will there be childcare provided?

We will not be offering childcare as a part of this program. If a husband and wife both wish to take part in the program we recommend one spouse participate in it one year, and the other spouse participate in it the following year. Or if you both wish to participate in the program together at the same time you'll need to arrange separate childcare.

Is there a fee to participate?

There is a $350 fee to participate in Discipleship Academy. A $100 non-refundable deposit is due at the time of registration. You may pay in full at the time of registration, or you may pay the $100 deposit, followed by additional payments on or before opening night in August, with the final balance to be paid off in January as semester two begins.

Participants are expected to attend sessions that will be held over the course of two semesters with four absences allowed for the year. Missing more than four classes will result in not being able to graduate from the program. Our main event lectures will occur on Monday evenings from 6-8pm at the Hernando Campus. Participants are also expected to complete all the assigned reading and homework each week. Each participant is expected to "pause" their participation with DGroups while participating with Discipleship Academy for the purpose of creating margin and focus to maximize the year-long journey. After the completion of Discipleship Academy, graduates are expected to be a competent and confident disciple-maker, that actively participates in making disciples inside and outside the local church.
